Director of Bands

Mr. Travis Pike is the current Director of Bands at Reidsville High School. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. Mr. Pike also holds a certificate in education for E.C.- General Curriculum. 

​

During his undergraduate studies at Appalachian State, Mr. Pike studied Saxophone under Dr. Scott Kallestad and Mr. Rodney Berry. He also studied band conducting under Dr. John Ross, Director of Bands, and concert and marching band methods under Dr. Scott Tobias, former ASU Associate Director of Bands and current Director of Bands at West Virginia University. He was a member of the saxophone sections for the ASU Marching Mountaineers, "North Carolina's Band of Distinction," the ASU Wind Ensemble, ASU Symphonic Band, ASU Concert Band, and ASU Jazz Ensemble and received the marching band's outstanding senior award. Mr. Pike completed his Student Teaching at West Forsyth High School in Clemmons, NC under the direction of Mr. Jim Kirkpatrick and Mr. Phil Spencer and graduated in 2011.

Mr. Pike began his career in education at Huntingtowne Farms Elementary and Cotswold Elementary in Charlotte, North Carolina in 2013. He taught Elementary General Music at both schools and presented Fall and Spring performances. In 2015, Mr. Pike was named the Director of Bands here at Reidsville High School. During his time at RHS, he has added auxiliary percussion and color guard to the marching band and led them to compete successfully in several band festivals around the area. He has also started a parent-led and involved Band Booster club and expanded the program to include Jazz Band and IB Music.

Mr. Pike has led woodwind and percussion clinics at various schools upon request and continues to play saxophone in ensembles such as the Piedmont Wind Symphony and the Greensboro Concert Band. He currently resides in Germanton, North Carolina and enjoys camping, hiking, playing guitar, and spending time with his wife, Emily, and with his family outside of school.

Color Guard Coach

Mrs. Daphne (Mac) McLaughlin is the current Color Guard Coach here at Reidsville High School. She holds a Bachelor's Degree of Arts in Mathematics and a Master's Degree in Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

​

Mrs. McLaughlin was an active member of the Band and Color Guard at Morehead High School in Eden, North Carolina and has always held a passion for it. She helped start an extracurricular color guard program at Rockingham Community College in Wentworth, North Carolina before attending UNCG. At UNCG, Mrs. McLaughlin worked in the Math Tutoring Lab and was a member of the orientation staff. She graduated in 2014 (Bachelor's) and 2019 (Master's).

Mrs. McLaughlin began her career in education at River Mill Academy teaching Mathematics in 2014 and joined the Ram family here at Reidsville High School in 2015 and was named the Color Guard Coach starting in 2018. Under her direction, the color guard has grown immensely. They have received several awards in their caption at marching festivals including their first ever First Place award at the 2019 Mount Airy High School Festival of Bands.

Mrs. McLaughlin currently resides in Eden, North Carolina and enjoys spending time with her husband, Phillip and her son, Nick outside of school.
